We are proud to announce that we’re offering our Canine Battle Buddies dog training to civilians! Now you can book a 2-week or 4-week board and train package for your personal dog while contributing to a great cause. Our dog training programs are conducted at our facility in Liberty, NC.
With your purchase, you’ll be helping us rescue dogs from shelters, train the dogs, and match them with deserving veterans — at no cost to the veteran recipient. For every two 4-week packages sold, we’ll be able to save two lives — one dog and one veteran. Join us in making a difference.

2-week puppy training:
Get started on the right foot… Or in this case, the right paw. Training puppies at a young age is crucial for their development and future well-being. The best thing a dog owner can do for a new puppy and themselves, is to set them up for success as early as possible. The right kind of dog training is essential.
Puppies are like sponges, eagerly absorbing new information and experiences. Their brains are highly malleable, making it the ideal time to shape their behaviors and teach them valuable skills. By starting training early, you can establish good habits and prevent the development of unwanted behaviors.
Basic obedience commands such as sit, stay, and come can be ingrained in their young minds, setting a solid foundation for their future training journey. Early training also allows puppies to become familiar with socialization, helping them adapt and interact confidently with people, other animals, and various environments. This early socialization lays the groundwork for a well-adjusted, friendly, confident, and happy adult dog.
what’s included: the puppy basics
Our Puppy Program is geared towards puppies between the ages of 12 weeks, to 6 months. Your puppy will board at our facility for 14 days during training. During this crucial developmental stage, we teach obedience basics and important fundamentals that will benefit the dog its entire life.
FUNDAMENTALS:
- Basic commands: Sit, Down, Place, Heel
- Name game / recall
- Introduction to kennel / crate manners
- Leash pressure / introduction to leash walking
- Introduction to environmental exposure
- Impulse control
2-week / 4-week board + train:
Dogs bring immeasurable joy and love into our lives, becoming cherished members of our families. To ensure their well-being and enhance the bond we share, dog training plays a pivotal role.
Dog training is not just a means of teaching commands; it is a journey that enhances the well-being of both dogs and their owners. From mental stimulation to improved communication, safety, and socialization, training provides numerous benefits. The strong bond developed through training creates a harmonious relationship built on trust, respect, and understanding. As responsible pet owners, investing in dog training unlocks the true potential of our furry friends, allowing them to thrive and live their best lives.
what’s included: 2-week board + train
Our Adult Board + Train programs are geard towards dogs age 7 months and older. This is designed for dogs who have never been in training, or that need a significant refresher on the basics. Your dog will board at our facility for 14 days during training. During a 2-week program, we develop and build the basic fundamentals that every dog needs to thrive and live their best life.
FUNDAMENTALS:
- Basic commands: Sit, Down, Place, Heel
- Name game / recall
- Introduction to kennel / crate manners
- Leash pressure / introduction to leash walking
- Introduction to environmental exposure
- Impulse control
what’s included: 4-week board + train
Our Adult Board + Train programs are geard towards dogs age 7 months and older. This program is designed to create and build fundamentals, as well as having the time to teach more advanced skills and behaviors like instilling neutrality, developing manners out in public, off-leash work, and less reactivity. These advanced skills offer a more complete training option for the dog, and will take the obedience and discipline to the next level.

🌟 Welcome to North Carolina, Maui! 🌟
Previously known as Maggie, this beautiful girl was rescued in Miami from @redlanddogsanctuary and has been living her best life with a loving owner. However, due to an important job commitment in Singapore, her dad couldn’t take her along and needed someone to care for her. Unfortunately, during this process, Maui tested positive for adult heartworm, despite being on preventative care. (A rare but possible occurrence—this is why heartworm prevention is so critical for every dog!)
When no foster options came through in Florida, her dedicated dad drove Maui up to us yesterday. Over the past two days, we’ve slowly introduced her to our pack and the other Battle Buddies spending the holidays with us. Maui is settling in wonderfully at the farm, and she’s in great spirits!
Here’s the plan for her journey:
➡️ She has one more month to enjoy regular activity and adjust to farm life.
➡️ In January, she’ll receive her first heartworm treatment injection, requiring strict rest in a calm environment.
➡️ Maui will undergo her final injections in February and need another month of careful recovery.
These next two months are critical, but we’re fully committed to getting Maui through this! Her dad loves her dearly and is relieved knowing she’s in the best hands. We’re honored to help her heal and make it to the finish line strong and healthy.
Please send Maui your love and good wishes as she begins this journey. She’s an incredible dog with a sweet spirit, and we’ll keep you posted every step of the way. 💙

🐾 Jett: The Last Man Standing! 🐾
Jett is the final Battle Buddy from our 2024 program, and he’s ready to find his forever home before the holidays!
This confident, well-mannered boy is truly one of a kind. Here’s what makes Jett so special:
✔️ Walks like a pro on a leash
✔️ Loves belly rubs—he’ll drop himself at your feet to soak up the love!
✔️ Sweet as can be and plays well with other dogs
✔️ Perfect snuggle buddy for those cozy nights
Jett’s one tiny preference? A home without cats. (He’s a little too curious about them!) A fenced yard would be ideal for this German Shepherd/Husky/Akita mix, but he’s equally content lounging and soaking up attention.
🎄 Let’s help Jett end this year in a warm home with a family or veteran who loves him! With his adoption, we’ll proudly wrap up 2024 with all our Battle Buddies placed in loving homes, ready to restart the program in 2025.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Amazing update! 🍁🐾🙏
This year, we’re celebrating something truly special: for the first time in 2 ½ years, our kennels will be empty for the holidays! Since our journey began, we’ve placed 52 dogs into loving homes. This milestone fills us with pride, gratitude, and renewed energy for what’s ahead.
Our only “last man standing” is ready to find his forever family, JETT. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be sharing updates and stories about him. Please help us by spreading the word so we can ensure his perfect match.
As we close this chapter, we’re dedicating the holiday season to caring for a special medical case in need of all our energy and resources.
Come January, we’ll relaunch the Charlie Mike Battle Buddies program with full hearts, ready to continue the mission with compassion, love, and determination.
Today, our home is full of veterans, friends, and volunteers who’ve become like family, sharing warmth, gratitude, and amazing moments together. We’re incredibly thankful for every one of you who has supported us in one way or another.

🎉 Miss Ollie Is Heading to Her Forever Home! 🐾
We’re beyond excited to share an update about Miss Ollie! Over the past few weeks, she’s been working with an amazing veteran family who understands her skin condition and is fully committed to providing the special care she needs. This incredible family has not only fallen in love with Ollie but also welcomed her into their hearts. She’ll soon have a brother and sister to share her life with, and we couldn’t be happier for her.
Ollie has been with us for close to 10 months—a journey filled with training, overcoming a severe skin infection, and blossoming into the incredible Battle Buddy she was always meant to be. We had to postpone her availability for adoption to nurse her back to health, and it took time, dedication, and resources to get her to where she is today.
She’s now in great shape, ready to fulfill her duties as a Battle Buddy, and heading to a family who will love and care for her in the way she truly deserves. This is why we do what we do. It’s also a reminder of how incredible people are out there, willing to give love and receive it in return in the most meaningful ways.
Every donation you’ve made helped Ollie’s journey—from boarding and food to training and extensive medical care. Stories like hers are made possible because of your support, and we’re so grateful.

🌟 Miss Bailey’s Training Journey! 🌟
Allow us a moment to brighten your feed with some incredible progress on Miss Bailey! She completed our two-week puppy board-and-train program, which we’re thrilled to offer to civilians. While it’s a shorter program compared to our intensive, months-long Battle Buddy training, it still gives each pup a strong foundation for success—just like we do with our veteran pups!
Miss Bailey was a star! 🐾 Her impulse control has transformed, and her leash-walking skills are sharper than ever. She’s even able to stay calm amidst the bustling energy here at the farm—no easy feat! We get a lot of movement with our volunteers and supporters, so it’s a great environment for her to practice those skills. Bailey came to us as a fairly timid puppy and has started to learn the most important thing - confidence! When we first introduced her to our horses she wanted nothing to do with them, she now places next to them without a care in the world 🤍
We’re so grateful to her family, who’ve supported charliemike.org from the start. While it was tough to say goodbye, we’re beyond happy to see Bailey thriving and on her way to a wonderful life with her family. Go, Bailey! 🎉

📣 Foster Needed for Sweet Mao! 📣 🚨 💖🙏
Hey everyone, remember Maggie? Now called Mao, she’s been living her best life with her amazing owner – a dedicated tennis coach who adopted her last November when we met in Miami at an adoption event. Mao came from the @redlanddogsanctuary , and since her adoption, she’s been thriving, staying active, social, and just as sweet as ever! 🐾💖
Now, we have a special situation where we need your help. Mao’s owner recently received a job offer that requires frequent travel to Singapore, making it tough for him to give her the stability she needs right now. He explored options for her to stay with family in France, but during her vet prep for the trip, Mao tested positive for adult heartworms. 💔
Heartworm treatment is a three-month journey, and she’ll need a calm, settled environment to recover fully. ℹ️ For those with other dogs, please note that heartworm is not contagious between dogs, so there’s no risk if you already have a pup at home. While Mao was on heartworm prevention, these things can sometimes slip through, and now we’re focused on giving her the best care to get her back to her healthy, happy self.
We’re urgently seeking a medical foster with experience and confidence in managing a heartworm-positive dog’s needs. The treatment costs will be fully covered, and her owner is ready to help with her food and other needs. He’s hopeful that, with your help, Mao can stay close until he settles into his new schedule. He’s even open to the possibility that her foster family may fall in love with her (though, of course, it would be bittersweet for him). ❤️
If you have a calm, loving home where Mao can rest, please reach out. Our priority is her well-being, and we’re grateful for any support you can provide to ensure she’s in a safe, healing space. Thank you always for being part of our mission – together, we keep making a difference. 🐕💪

A sweet new pup from one of our longtime volunteers and donors who has supported us since the beginning. Now, they are trusting us with Bailey’s training journey! 💖

ℹ️ We offer 2-week puppy training and 4-week adult dog training with the same love and expertise we use for our veterans’ Battle Buddies. While our therapy dog program for veterans is a deep, 5-6 month journey offered at no cost to them, civilians can take advantage of our shorter programs.
Even better? The fees you pay go 100% back into supporting our mission of rescuing dogs, training them, and placing them with veterans + first responders —all at no charge to them.

💙 We are beyond grateful for the love and support you continue to show, even with everything going on, like Hurricane Helen and fundraising efforts. It warms our hearts that many of you are still care about the dogs in our program, especially Teddy.
For those asking, Teddy is doing much better! His sweet personality is shining through, and he just wants love. Today, when Karissa came to bathe Sugar for her veteran, she gave Teddy a freshen-up too, and he did amazing. He’s almost ready for adoption, and because he’s had such a rough go and we want him in a home setting rather than a kennel environment, we’ve opened his adoption to civilians as well as veterans and first responders. All he needs is a happy, loving home. He plays great with other dogs, shows no prey drive, and just wants to snuggle.
We’re still raising funds for his care. Teddy has been on a special diet and products for his immune system, and we’ve treated his stress-related skin issues—his hair is growing back nicely! Your donations have helped so much, but we still need support for him and other battle buddies.

It’s been busy around here, and lately, there’s been a lot of not-so-great news—a lot of sadness, stress, and running around with Hurricane Helene and now that impending storm heading towards Florida 😮💨— But amidst the tough moments, there’s also so much good. Between people stepping up to help and our Battle Buddies graduating, there are still bright spots to celebrate. 🌟
Miss Sugar got her spa day today 🛀, thanks to @karessa who has been grooming our Battle Buddies from the very beginning. Carissa donates her time and expertise to care for these incredible dogs, and we wouldn’t trust our personal pups with anyone else! She’s patient, understanding, and truly respects the training these dogs are going through. When one isn’t ready, she doesn’t push them—she helps them get more comfortable.
Miss Sugar, who usually doesn’t love getting wet, was a rockstar! After her bath, she enjoyed all the rubs, cuts, and even getting her nails done. We’re so proud of her! And the best news? She goes home on the 14th with her veteran, Tom—a Vietnam vet and former fighter pilot. We’re beyond excited to share this happy moment with all of you after a string of tough news.
